My experience with Green Motion Edinburgh was one of the worst I’ve ever had with any rental company – and I’ve rented cars all over Europe for decades.
I rented a Skoda Karoq in July 2025. Upon return, I was blindsided by an outrageous damage claim for over £1,900 for a “damaged” rim and tyre. I made pictures before and after the rental period and it was 100% clear that the so-called damage was pre-existing. Even on their own signed condition report, which I received before the rental, it was already mentioned.
I also took timestamped pictures on return, all of which show no new damage. Despite all evidence they refuse to refund my deposit.
Their behavior screams scam:
• They ignored evidence of pre-existing damage.
• They refused to provide real repair documentation.
• On top of the rim and tyre “damage” they tried to charge an arbitrary £75 “service fee” and £97 “loss of use” without proof or justification.
• I checked the internet and the price for the same rim and tyre is less than 400 GBP.
To top it off, their conduct feels deliberately obstructive and exploitative – taking advantage of travelers and hiding behind complex paperwork and silence. I found dozens of reviews indicating that they consistently claim pre-existing damage to their customers. It looks like it’s their business model. Their rental prices are lower than others, however they compensate for this difference by not refunding customers’ deposits by raising fake damage claims.
This company should not be allowed to operate under such dishonest practices. Save yourself the stress and money – book with ANYONE ELSE.
